By Dan, on March 28th, 2011 I think this is undoubtedly one of the most hilarious video clips that we’ve taken of the girls so far. Just click on the image below to view what we have come to refer to as The Monkey Walk.

What you must understand in order to fully appreciate this is that we did not teach them this! And they don’t watch any TV, so they didn’t see it there. I don’t think they’re copying anyone except each other. And although they have seen a picture of monkey’s face in a children’s book, and we have imitated the sound for them, they’ve never seen any video or animation of a monkey walking. It just sorta materialized out of the blue one day… We had each seen one or the other girl do this kind of thing in the couple days before this video clip was shot, but they had never done it for more than a second or two, and never at the same time. In fact, I’m not sure they’ve done it again in the last couple weeks since we shot this, even though they have seen it played back a couple times now.
Needless to say, this makes me really look forward to seeing their imaginations develop in the years ahead, enjoying whatever silly nonsense they come up with.
By Dan, on March 10th, 2011 Last weekend our family gathered over at Nana & Papa’s house to celebrate birthdays for Auntie Annmarie and Cousin Cortnie. The weather was rather nice, so we spent some time out in the backyard and had fun playing with the kids. They had a great time running around exploring the yard with their cousins.

 Elizabeth rides the Purple Pony
Carolyn plays with a kaleidoscope that I remember from when I was a kid!
Elizabeth wants a turn on the swing!
 A ride in the wheelbarrow!
 Running and giggling!
Also, a few days ago Nana and Papa came over to visit, and Nana arrived bearing gifts for the girls! She got each of them a small bucket and shovel with which to play in the sand down at the park. Carolyn and Elizabeth were fascinated by their new toys and spent at least 20 minutes playing in the sand, just filling the buckets up and then emptying them again. Fun!
Thanks for the fun toys, Nana!
Remember when you didn't mind getting sand everywhere?
Needless to say, both girls came home with sand in their hair...
 Park Day = Bath Day
By Dan, on February 14th, 2011 The girls have just turned 21 months old — only a few more months before their 2nd Birthday! They’re learning so many fun new things these days. Their vocabulary is quickly growing, it seems, and I’m sure that soon it will really start to explode. A few of the things they have begun saying lately include “thank you” and “all gone” and “wash wash wash” when we wipe their hands or faces. These words are not articulated perfectly yet, of course, but they are consistent and quite recognizable to us. I know we’re supposed to savor every moment of the age they’re currently at, but with these first attempts at language I still can’t help but look forward to the time when they’ll be able to fully communicate their own thoughts. (And yes, I know that will bring its own set of challenges and headaches, but I think I will nevertheless prefer those to the challenges and headaches of trying to communicate with a child who is still mostly pre-verbal.)
Most of the time they’re still very good about playing together. Once in a while they want the same toy at the same time, and then some grabbing and fussing ensues. But most of the time, they do a pretty good job taking turns with the toys or even playing with them together simultaneously. Also, we frequently see them pick up two stuffed animals or two hats, so they can hang onto one and then run and give the other one to Sister.
And they love climbing on everything! These patio chairs in our back yard are the latest climbing obstacles they have conquered.

By Dan, on January 30th, 2011 Just because we haven’t posted any video clips to the blog in eons doesn’t mean we haven’t been shooting plenty of video. Indeed, part of the problem is that we’ve shot so much that I just haven’t made the time to go through and process it all. It’s pretty time consuming. Also, toward the end of last year I had very little space left on my primary hard drive, so I hadn’t pulled any video footage off the camera for several months, and I knew it was going to be an immense chore when I finally got around to it. Fortunately, Janet gave me a nice big 2 terabyte drive for Christmas, so now I finally have someplace to get all of that footage backed up.
Anyway, a couple months ago I did manage to put together these three clips from last year, and I figure it’s finally time to share them here. Now I just need to get to work on the rest of the backlog! I’m sure I’ll uncover a few more gems in the process. First up is a video from August last year showing how cute the girls can be just sitting there eating Cheerios!

The second clip is from early October last year, and it shows the girls playing together and entertaining themselves with some pots and pans in the kitchen. Sometimes they get a little grabby and try to steal whatever their sister is holding, and that inevitably leads to some fussing, or even crying — but what you see here is actually pretty typical of them. Most of the time they play very nicely together! In fact, more recently we’ve seen lots of instances where one of them will offer a toy in trade for whatever their sister is holding (such trades are usually accepted), and other instances where one girl will pick up two toys and then run to share one of them with her sister. It’s pretty cute!

And finally, here’s a priceless little clip we got when we took the girls to Joan’s Pumpkin Patch last October. Their cute little giggles make me smile every time I see this, and I’ve watched it countless times already.

Obviously, I really need to get serious about cranking through the rest of the backlog of videos, so I can post the best clips — and maybe even post something current! Yeah, there’s a thought.
By Dan, on January 29th, 2011 When they’re not tearing it up at the park, the girls have plenty of games they like to play at home too. Here are just a few quick pics that make me smile:

Not to be outdone, Elizabeth also gives the dog a hug... Sorta.
